Can Solar PV power a ground sourced heat pump (GSHP) home in Southern Ontario?

The short answer is NO.  Not without an unrealistic amount of seasonal electricity storage.

When making energy system decisions it is important to:

a)Pay attention to system realities

b)Put aside beliefs and biases

c)And inform the decision based on real world evidence and data

The reality is that Ontario’s electricity grid is a just in time (JIT) delivery system for electricity.

Many believe that annual solar data is sufficient to make an informed decision to deploy solar PV.

This study was undertaken to collate real world data from two proximate homesteads (one with installed solar PV,  one with installed GSHP) in an attempt to answer the question above.
